Located in Forest, VA, Pride and Prejudoodles LLC trains its Goldendoodles and Labradoodles to a level where they can be certified as a therapy dog. Therapy dogs are able to provide affection and comfort to individuals in emotional need. Once Pride and Prejudoodles LLC trains a dog as a therapy dog, it can accompany its owner to schools, nursing homes, and hospitals and help the client day to day.

The original Labradoodle was bred in the 1980s by a manager for Australian Guide Dogs. A Hawaiian woman who was visually impaired needed a seeing-eye dog that wouldn’t affect her husband’s allergies. The breeder thought mixing a Labrador’s trainability and gentle nature with the poodle’s intelligence and low-shedding coat would provide the ideal service dog for the couple.

Tests demonstrated that one of the puppies had the temperament, personality and allergy-compatible coat to meet the requirements. This pup, named Sultan, is known as the first recorded Labradoodle.
